Bhopal is set to take a major step toward green and sustainable public transportation with the launch of its new electric city bus service on July 25. Before the official rollout, 21 new electric buses will undergo a five-day trial run from July 20 to July 24 across different routes in the city.

The new e-buses are equipped with hydraulic wheelchair ramps, low-floor entry, air suspension, CCTV surveillance, GPS tracking, digital passenger information displays, panic buttons, and other advanced safety features, ensuring a comfortable and accessible travel experience for all passengers.

The fare has been kept affordable at ₹1.50 per kilometre, with a minimum fare of ₹7. This means commuters can travel 10 kilometres for just ₹15.

In the first phase, 20 electric buses will begin regular operations on 10 city routes. The fleet will later be expanded to 100 buses and eventually 200 buses. Following Bhopal, similar electric bus services are planned for Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain under a joint initiative of the Central and Madhya Pradesh governments.

The project aims to reduce pollution, promote clean energy, and provide citizens with a modern, safe, and eco-friendly public transport system.
