Dhaka, Bangladesh: A case involving 13-year-old Anamika Akhtar Jui has gone viral on social media. According to widely shared claims, Anamika was allegedly married at the age of 11 to 22-year-old Shakib Mia and became a mother at 13. A few months after giving birth, her husband and in-laws allegedly kept the baby and forced her out of the house.
The minor mother reportedly filed a complaint with the Dhaka Legal Aid Office and sought justice in court. Acting on the court’s order, police recovered the seven-month-old child and reunited him with his mother. During the hearing, the judge reportedly observed that “she is still a child herself, yet she has become a mother.”
