Shabari’s Devotion, Ram-Sugriva Friendship and Bali’s Slaying Enthrall Audiences at Guna Ramlila
Emotional performances at the Old Grain Market showcase the values of devotion, friendship and keeping one’s promises
GUNA: The 10th day of the Ramlila organized by the Public Shri Ramlila and Dussehra Festival Committee at the Old Grain Market in Guna witnessed captivating performances depicting Shabari’s devotion, the friendship between Lord Ram and Sugriva, and the slaying of Bali. The performances captivated the audience and conveyed powerful messages of faith, loyalty and righteousness.
During the presentation, Lord Ram and Lakshman, while searching for Mata Sita, encounter the critically injured Jatayu. He informs them that Ravana has abducted Sita and taken her towards the south. Following this clue, the two brothers continue their search and reach the hermitage of Shabari.
The scene depicting Shabari’s unwavering devotion was presented beautifully. Lord Ram accepts the sweet berries offered by Shabari with love and affection. She then informs him about Sugriva, who resides with his companions on Rishyamuk Mountain, and advises him to seek Sugriva’s assistance. Lord Ram blesses Shabari with the teachings of Navadha Bhakti, the nine forms of devotion, before proceeding further.
At Rishyamuk Mountain, Lord Ram and Lakshman meet Hanuman for the first time. Hanuman subsequently facilitates the meeting and friendship between Lord Ram and Sugriva. Sugriva narrates his suffering and explains how fear of his elder brother Bali has forced him to live away from his kingdom.
Understanding Sugriva’s plight, Lord Ram promises to help him regain his kingdom and wife. The ensuing battle between Sugriva and Bali is staged dramatically. With Bali’s death at the hands of Lord Ram, Sugriva regains his kingdom, bringing the episode to a powerful conclusion. The performance highlights the importance of friendship, trust, justice and honouring one’s promises.
