July 14, 2026: Guna district is set to transform Solid Waste Management (SWM) into a large-scale public movement, with the district administration introducing a new strategy focused on community participation and strict enforcement of environmental rules.
At a high-level review meeting chaired by Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal, officials decided to establish a multi-tier monitoring task force to ensure effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, in line with Supreme Court directions. The administration will regularly monitor waste management activities across the district.
The Collector urged citizens to actively participate by segregating wet waste, dry waste, and e-waste at the household level and avoiding the use of single-use plastic. The administration also announced strict penalties for violations, including a ₹1,000 fine for first-time offenders and ₹5,000 for repeat violations. A truck carrying banned polythene was recently fined ₹50,000, highlighting the district’s zero-tolerance approach.
The meeting also emphasized cleanliness at religious places, the safety and welfare of sanitation workers, and recognition for outstanding performers.
