Farmers Camp Just a Few Kilometres from CM House; Schools Closed, Traffic Severely Disrupted

Bhopal witnessed a massive farmers’ protest on Tuesday as thousands of farmers, under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, marched to the state capital demanding immediate action on key agricultural issues. The large-scale demonstration brought traffic to a standstill on Hoshangabad Road, while several schools remained closed as a precautionary measure.
The protest intensified after talks between farmer representatives and Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana failed to produce a breakthrough. Farmers remained firm on their demands and continued their sit-in just a few kilometres from the Chief Minister’s residence, increasing pressure on the state government.
Key Demands of the Farmers
100% government procurement of summer moong (green gram) at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Withdrawal of the e-token system for fertilizer distribution.
Adequate electricity supply during low rainfall conditions.
Policy changes regarding the Bhavantar Scheme.
Following the meeting, Minister Kansana said the state government had requested Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to increase Madhya Pradesh’s moong procurement target from 4.54 lakh tonnes to 8.06 lakh tonnes. The state is expected to produce around 20.16 lakh tonnes of moong this season.
High Court Upholds E-Vikas Fertilizer System
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a petition challenging the E-Vikas fertilizer distribution system, observing that the digital mechanism is a policy decision aimed at preventing black marketing and hoarding. Farmer groups, however, argue that frequent server failures and technical glitches are making the system difficult to use.
