Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a significant hike in passenger bus fares after nearly five years, increasing ticket prices by 60% to 75% across various categories. According to the latest notification issued by the Transport Department, the fare for ordinary buses has been revised from ₹1.25 per km to ₹2.00 per km, while the minimum fare has been increased from ₹7 to ₹10.
Under the revised fare structure, night service buses will charge 10% extra, non-AC deluxe buses 25% extra, sleeper buses 40% extra, AC deluxe buses 50% extra, and super luxury AC coaches up to 75% extra over the ordinary bus fare.
The fare hike is expected to have the greatest impact on long-distance travelers. A 100-kilometre journey that earlier cost around ₹125 will now cost nearly ₹200. However, city bus fares remain unchanged, providing relief to local commuters. The Transport Department said the revision was made in view of rising operational and maintenance costs.
