Ujjain: The famous Nagchandreshwar Temple, located on the third floor of the Mahakaleshwar Temple complex, opens only once a year on Nag Panchami. The temple remains open for devotees for 24 hours from midnight. The shrine houses a rare idol of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha seated beneath the hood of serpent king Takshak. Special prayers and abhishekam are performed during this period. Devotees believe that worshipping Nagchandreshwar on Nag Panchami helps in seeking relief from Kaal Sarp Dosha and brings good health, prosperity and blessings. Thousands of devotees visit Ujjain for this rare annual darshan.
