Gwalior: A protest and subsequent clash erupted during Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s programme in Gwalior on Monday. Black flags were reportedly shown during the bhoomi pujan ceremony of a Kushwaha Hostel at Bela Ki Bawdi, triggering a confrontation between protesters and Scindia supporters.
The situation escalated from a heated exchange to physical scuffle, forcing police to intervene and bring the situation under control.
The protesters reportedly objected to Scindia being invited as the chief guest for the hostel’s bhoomi pujan ceremony. They argued that since the land had been allotted for the Kushwaha community, a leader or public representative from the community should have been given priority at the event.
Those protesting were reportedly supporters of Gwalior MP Bharat Singh Kushwaha, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Protester Hariom Kushwaha alleged that the land for the hostel had been allotted by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He said leaders associated with the Kushwaha community, including Narayan Singh Kushwaha or Bharat Singh Kushwaha, could have been invited as chief guests.
Police presence at the venue prevented the situation from escalating further.
